Anchovy Fish Curry|Nethili Meen Kulambu


Anchovy!! One of the cheap and best fish variety in the market. Though it is cheap, it has a better quality and benefits. People use to say that if you take this nethili once a week, then all heart problems, skin problems, teeth problems and many will stay away from you. Especially its good for pregnant women. And one more super thing about Nethili is weight loss it helps to reduce your weight. And this recipe is a signature dish of my brother, Mr.Dinesh Priyan. He came home and prepared Anchovy curry. So I just wish to share this recipe with you all. Of course, it was really tasty.

Servings - 4
Preparation Time - 25 minutes


Nethili/Anchovy - 250 gms
Sesame Oil - 50 ml
Tamarind - 2 lemon size
Tomato - 4
Green chili - 3 
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Chopped onion shallot - 1 small cup
Garlic - 20 cloves
Turmeric Powder - 1 tbsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1 tbsp
Coriander powder - 3 tbsp
Chilli Powder- 2 tbsp
Fish curry masala - 20 gms
Salt - 1 tbsp


Step 1: Soak Tamarind in a bowl and take out the puree. Then extract juice from two tomatoes add with tamarind water.

Step 2: Add Coriander powder, chili powder, fish curry masala to the tomato tamarind water and mix well.
Step 3: Heat oil in a stock pot then add fenugreek seeds, chopped onions, green chili and curry leaves and saute well.

Step 4: Add Garlic when the onion gets brown. Stir and saute well.

Step 5: Stir well until the raw aroma of garlic goes away. Then add Turmeric powder and leave it for 1 minute and add 2 chopped tomatoes. Let it cook for a couple of minutes.

Step 6: Now add Tamarind tomato solution in a pot and let it cook for 10 minutes in a low flame.

Step 7: Finally put Anchovy/Nethili and cook for 5 mins in a low flame and switch off the stove.

Step 8: This curry goes well with rice.
